A memorial service will be at 2PM Saturday Nov.14 at Hillsboro United Methodist Church. Sandy passed away on October 24, 2015 after a year long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at age 68.
Sandy was born on May 18,1947 and spent most of his life in Forest Grove, OR, and graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1965. During his 4 year enlistment in the US Coast Guard he met and married his wife of 48 years, Joan Wilson. They were blessed with a son, Brent in 1973.
After the Coast Guard, Sandy completed B.S and M.S degrees from Portland State University. He taught 8th grade integrated science for 32 years at Evergreen Middle School in Hillsboro and retired in 2003.
Survivors include his mother Veryl Rogers Kappes; wife Joan; son Brent; daughter in-law Tonya; granddaughters Gracie and Peyton; and brothers Shawn and Kim.
Sandy's humorous nature will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances to the Bonnie L. Hayes Small Animal Shelter.
