Patrick Eugene Mitchell, a proud Vietnam veteran, devoted husband, and master craftsman, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at 7:45 a.m. at the Community Living Center in Vancouver, Washington.
Born with a spirit of service and adventure, Patrick bravely served two tours for his country in the Army's 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam War. He served one year on the frontlines in the infantry and one year as a door gunner on the Huey Helicopter. Within his 2 tours he received the following decorations; National Defense Service Metal, Army Commendation Metal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Metal, Combat Infantry's Badge, Vietnam Campaign Metal, Bronze Star Metal, Aircraft Crewman's Badge, and Air Metal (1-6th Oak Leaf Cluster.) His courage, loyalty, and resilience defined him not only during his years in uniform, but throughout his entire life. He was honorably discharged from the army on July 1, 1973. Upon returning from the Vietnam war, he served in the Oregon National Guard.
After the war, Patrick channeled his skills and creativity into architecture and building, where his hands and mind worked together to design and bring to life lasting projects. He joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers of America as a journeyman carpenter in 1993. Away from work, he found joy in the art of building model ships and meticulous creations that reflected both his patience and his love of detail.
More than anything, Patrick's life was anchored by love. He shared countless adventures, laughs, and memories with his beloved wife, Kathy, who stood by his side through every chapter of life. Together, they built not only a home, but a life full of warmth, devotion, and joy.
Patrick will be remembered for his humor, his craftsmanship, and his unwavering love for family and country. His story is one of service, creativity, and love, a life fully and proudly lived.
Patrick will be placed to rest with his beloved wife Kathy at The Fir Lawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Oregon. A celebration of Patrick's life will be held at 28845 SW Hideaway Ln at 2pm, where family and friends will gather to honor the remarkable man, he was.
