Gordon Gene Hicks

November 27, 1931 — July 15, 2025

Gordon Gene Hicks, 93,passed away July 15, 2025 in the comfort of his home with his family in Aloha, Oregon. He was born on November 27, 1931 in Woodland, Washington to his parents Brad & Dora Hicks. Gordon spent his early years working in hay fields with his father. After serving in Korea as a sharpshooter, he moved to Portland, Oregon, to work in the construction industry. He married Daphaine Gunderson and had three daughters, Judy Burton, Allison Freeman, & Tammy Lentz, and one son Mitchell, while living in Portland.

He helped build a well-loved 'A Frame' with his buddy Ray, in what was a small town of Gleneden. His family was able to enjoy many vacations there, making many endless memories. Gordon later married Delores "Jerry" Hicks, and together they moved to Neakahnie where they owned and ran crab boat rentals by the name of, "George's Dock". After mother nature sent a bad storm, they moved on to running a produce stand in Lincoln City.

Eventually, they moved back to Portland, where Gordon began driving for Portland Freight. After 'Jerry' preceded him in death, he hit the road driving a semi truck. He was able to visit often and especially enjoyed it when he got to stay with his son, Mitch and his family.

On a trip to Vegas, Gordon met a southern belle named Bridget who he'd gone on to marry in a Vegas drive-thru Chapel. After a few years, the two of them would relocate to her home state of Louisiana. Gordon fell in love with Lake Charles, Louisiana for the weather, the casinos, and the southern hospitality. During this time, he was driving for John & Johns out of Houston, making weekly runs. Bridget preceded him in death, and he retired at that time in 2016 at age 83. He moved back to Oregon where he resided with his son Mitch.

Gordon went along for many camping trips where he loved playing cards with the gang, and our beloved dog Maggie was always at his side. He was also able to join in on many vacations in Vegas and Florida. However, he was really a homebody, a quiet guy, preferring to be in the company of his dogs. His outings were usually to enjoy a Corona and play a $20 most times with friends, at the American Legion. Gordon maintained his vitamin regimen and no doctors until age of 93! Over the last 6 months he's slowed down, as his health declined. We were able to take him to Alani and the American Legion for his last gambling outings, where he was a "winner" you know-"broke even." Gordon was a stoic man, who kept his mental capacity all the way to the moment he left this earth. He will be missed by his children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends. In addition to his spouses, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy, his brother, Robert, and his parents, Brad and Dora.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 10, 2025 at 11am at the Tigard American Legion (downstairs) 8635 SW Scoffins Street, Tigard, OR 97223.

Burial will take place on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 12:30 pm at Gethsemane Cemetery, Happy Valley, Oregon.
