Kelsay: Gary Phillip passed away May 16, 2016 at his home in Hillsboro, Ore surrounded by family and loved ones, after a long and brave battle with ALS also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Gary was born in Anaheim, CA on December 24, 1940 to James and Elloise Kelsay. At a young age, due to his father's occupation, he moved around quite a bit, mostly between California and Arizona. He attended high school in Compton, CA before enlisting in the United States Navy in December 1957, at the age of 17. He served four years and received an honorable discharge in January 1962.
In 1978, he married his wonderful wife Gayle and had seven children between them. He enjoyed working as an engineer at PGE for 30 years, before his retirement in 2005. After retirement he enjoyed trips to the casino, long road trips and reading, especially about history related events.
Everyone that knew Gary, knew he was quite the storyteller. Everything from his rebellious military days to delivering newspapers as a young child at Disneyland. Everyone that came into contact with Gary, fell in love with him. He had such an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor, people rarely forgot him.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gayle, as well as his children Brad, Derek (Melanie), Jennifer, Michelle (Wayne), Stephanie (Matt), Amanda (Jason), and Tyson (Monica). As well as 14 grand-children and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Lynn, in 1993.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to the ALS Association.
