Elberta Catharine Arehart

Family came to Oregon on the Oregon Trail and Elberta was born in Corvallis, Oregon on January 19th, 1934. Her family moved to Dixie Mountain in 1945, and she attended Shadybrook school and graduated from there in 1949.

Elberta was later married to Fred Vuylsteke and had two children, Eric and Debra. Elberta lived in the Hillsboro area for over twenty years. She worked at Tektronix for over ten years.

Later, after retiring from Tektronix, she met Gary Arehart who had recently retired from the Post Office. After a year of courtship, they married and decided to move to Lapine, Oregon.

Elberta and Gary lived in Lapine, Oregon for over 25 years. They traveled all over towing a camper trailer. There were many hunting, fishing, and camping trips, as well as rock hounding expeditions.

Gary and Berti were involved in the local Church and participated in many Christian functions and activities. They loved going out with friends, evangelizing through acting and singing in their group band, The Corn Nuts.

As time went by, Gary and Berti acquired various physical problems that come with advanced age and were less able to travel and participate in the many activities they loved to do.

Gary had a heart attack and passed away July 31st, 2023. Elberta could no longer live by herself and moved back to the Hillsboro area to live with her daughter and son in-law.

After two months, Elberta became too ill to live at home and was moved to a nursing home facility in Hillsboro. She passed away June 11th, 2026.

Elberta is survived by her sister Pat Marsh, Pat's husband Russ Marsh and their children Jim - Luana, Brad - Jusenta, Kathleen Fariborz and grandchildren & great grandchildren.

Elberta is also survived by her daughter Debra, Debra's husband Bill, and granddaughter Catharine. And Rick's child Edward and wife Tracy and great grandson Ryan.
