Daniel Merrill Mead

Daniel "Dan" Mead, 81, of Hillsboro, Oregon, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 30, 2026. Born January 2, 1945, in Portland, Oregon, to Philip Henry Mead and Helen Fairley Mead, Dan spent his entire life in Oregon and was raised in Beaverton.

After graduating from High School, Dan attended Multnomah Bible School where he studied journalism and met his future wife, Ruth Anne Pugh. They married and raised their son, Philip H.J. Mead, in Oregon.

Throughout his career, Dan worked in a variety of trades and professions. He completed a carpentry apprenticeship and spent many years as an independent contractor. He later worked in home installation services and sales, building a reputation for craftsmanship, practical knowledge, and dedication to helping others.

Following the passing of Ruth Anne in 2004, Dan found love again when he met Sharon Abrahamson. They married in 2013, and Dan moved to Hillsboro, where he became a cherished member of the Abrahamson family.

Dan was a special man. Quiet and humble, but also so deep. He was a man of few, but meaningful words. He was an avid reader of historical fiction and spy novels. He enjoyed word and puzzle games and possessed an extensive knowledge of Oregon's native plants from years spent working in tree nurseries with his father. He found great satisfaction in gardening, carpentry, and crafting furniture by hand. Before his stroke in 2000, he was active in writing and acting in church plays. He used his talents at Cedar Mill and Alliance Bible Churches. He was a loving grandpa, husband, and friend.

Dan is survived by his wife Sharon, his son Philip H.J. Mead, and members of the extended Abrahamson family and Mead clan. He leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship, learning, and quiet devotion to family, and friends.

A memorial service and celebration of life will take place at Calvary Chapel in Hillsboro, Oregon on Saturday, August 22, at 10:00am.
