Billie Jean Herman, age 94, passed away July 4, 2023, in Hillsboro, Oregon. She was a
 
 wonderful mother who was always there when her children needed her. She had many
 
 friends and was a well-respected member of the community in Hillsboro.
 
 
 She was born on September 26, 1928, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to William and Altha
 
 (Rogers) Ward. She lived for a short time in Kansas before moving to Oregon with her
 
 parents. She attended Girls Polytechnic High School in Portland where she acquired an
 
 interest in food preparation which led to her career in the restaurant business. Her first
 
 business was the Hillsboro Cafe, across the street from the Washington County
 
 Courthouse, where everyone in the local criminal justice field knew her on a first name
 
 basis. She and her husband owned many other restaurants throughout their lives.
 
 
 On June 10, 1946, she married the love of her life, Donald Francis Joseph Herman, in
 
 Portland, Oregon. They met in Portland when Donald was serving in the Navy and his
 
 ship was in port for the Rose Festival.
 
 
 Billie is survived by daughters Rita (Bill) Bennet, of Tillamook, Oregon, Tereasa (Larry)
 
 Loerzel, of Cornelius, Oregon, and Rachael (Tim) Bohanan, of Beaverton, Oregon. She
 
 leaves behind 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Preceding her in
 
 death were her parents, husband, daughter Deborah, son Michael, granddaughter
 
 Jennifer, and grandson Jeff.
 
 
 A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at the Fir Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1070 West Main Street, Hillsboro, Oregon, 97123. Pallbearers include Michael Herley, Larry Loerzel, Sr, Larry Loerzel II, Tim Bohanan, Christian Fifield, and Jordan Reid. Billie will be laid to rest with her husband Donald at the Fir Lawn Memorial Park.
