    Neoma Irene "Nellie" Tilford

    September 18, 1922 - September 14, 2011

Neoma "Aunt Nellie" Tilford was born in Busch, Arkansas to Berl and Ruby Parker Huffman. She grew up there with her 5 siblings. Marrying James "Uncle Gib" Gilbert Tilford on July 29, 1942 the two set out west. Many towns and jobs later, they located themselves in Washington County and in 1964 bought their home in Hillsboro. It was there they called home until both their passing. Having lost most of her hearing as a young child, it was a disability that never stopped her from achieving anything. Making magic in the kitchen, she worked as a cook for most of her life. For over a decade she worked at the Jingle Room in Corneilus until retiring. Never having children of their own allowed them to always find the time and energy for every child in the family. From Barbie clothes to clam digging, all of our lives were full of love, support and most importantly, knowledge. Teaching life's lessons in the ups and downs we all experience, Nellie taught those around her that whatever happens in life we could overcome any challenge. In the 67 years they shared when not working they would be traveling. Whether a day drive to the coast or a week of camping in eastern Oregon they indulged their love of the journey as well as the destination. Each one of us has different aspects of Nellie in us but as a group it is strength and courage. What better legacy could one leave their loved ones? She is survived by two brothers in California and a sister in Illinois. She leaves two nieces and their families as well as great nieces and so on. The impact she leaves on us is stronger than the grief of loss. Never will we forget, since a part of you is who we all are. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, Septerber 21, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. in our chapel. Interment will follow at Fir Lawn Memorial Park . Hillboro, OR.
