    Maurice Leroy Shick

    December 31, 1924 - October 20, 2011

    Maurice Leroy Shick passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Maurie was born to Raleigh and Hazel Shick in Gladstone Oregon in 1924. He grew up along the Clackamas River and was a graduate of Oregon City High School and Lewis and Clark College. Maurie served in the US Navy on the U.S.S. Guadalcanal from 1943 to 1946 as a 2nd Class Signalman. He received a Presidential Citation for assisting in the capture of the U 505. The U 505 was the only German U Boat captured in World War II and is presently on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Maurie met his wife, Iris, in1947, two weeks after she arrived in the U.S.A from Alberta Canada. It was love at first sight and they were married in June 1949. Maurie's career spanned 37 years with Portland General Electric. He was a 30 year member of the Lion's Club and received the Dedicated Humanitarian Service Award from the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation in 1996. Maurie was an avid fisherman and golfer and he loved the Oregon Coast. He was greatly loved and respected by all who had the privelege of knowing him. Maurie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Iris, his daughters Becky Keuter and Cynthia Shick, and their husbands Dan Keuter and Dennis Fisher. Maurie has four loving grandchildren; April Keuter, Andy Keuter (Kari), Aaron Keuter (Bethany), Amy Keuter, one one great granddaughter, Payton Keuter. He is also survived by two brothers, Don and Dick Shick, their wives, Carole and Dorothy and many many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in Maurie's honor on Thursday, Oct. 27th, 2011 at 11 o'clock at Evergreen Christian Church in Hillsboro, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Evergreen Christian Church or the Evergreen Christian Church Food Bank.
